Importing your bank statements
Upload a PDF statement and Monvo pulls out every transaction, so you can see spending, subscriptions, and money left on the table in about a minute. Here is what you need.
File requirements
- PDF only. The statement must be a real PDF with selectable text, not a photo or a scan. If you can highlight the text with your cursor, it will work.
- 10 MB max, 30 pages max per file.
- You can upload multiple files at once. Monvo detects which bank each statement belongs to automatically.
- Already uploaded a statement? Monvo recognizes duplicates and skips them, so you will never double-count.
Supported banks
Wealthsimple and Primerica annual statements work too, though only as summaries. If your bank is not listed, try uploading anyway. Monvo reads most Canadian statement formats, and connecting your bank directly with Plaid always works as an alternative.
What happens after you upload
- Monvo reads the PDF and pulls out every transaction. This usually takes about a minute per statement.
- Transactions are categorized automatically. You can fix any miscategorization by tapping a transaction.
- Your dashboard updates: spending breakdown, trends, subscriptions, and money on the table.
Free accounts can complete one statement import. Paid plans get unlimited imports plus live bank connections.
Your file is safe
The original PDF is deleted after extraction. It is never stored. The extracted transaction text is sent to Anthropic (Claude) only to parse the statement into structured transactions. Read more on our security page.
Troubleshooting
My upload failed. What went wrong?
The most common cause is a scanned or image-only PDF. If you cannot select the text in the file, Monvo cannot read it. Download a fresh statement from your bank's website instead of scanning a paper copy.
The file is too large.
Statements must be under 10 MB and 30 pages. Try downloading a shorter date range from your bank.
Monvo did not recognize my bank.
Bank detection is automatic, but unusual formats can slip through. Your transactions are still extracted. If the bank name looks wrong, contact us and we will take a look.
Some transactions are missing or wrong.
Complex statements occasionally misparse a line or two. Tap any transaction to recategorize it, and your correction is saved permanently.
It says I already uploaded this statement.
Monvo detects duplicates so your data never double-counts. If you believe this is a mistake, check whether the statement overlaps a date range you already imported.
I would rather not upload files at all.
Connect your bank directly with Plaid instead. It is read-only, takes about a minute, and keeps your data syncing automatically.
